MILAN-GENOA MOTORWAY UNDERPASS, MILAN / The extension of line 2 (M2) of the Milan Metro, from Famagosta to Assago, also goes under the Milan-Genoa motorway.
The Monterobbio tunnel, made up of 3 monolithic sections pushed in one after the other under the A7 motorway, was built to provide a passage for the trains. The construction of the tunnel did not require the motorway above to be closed. At the same time, five km further north on the same road, two more underpasses were built (one for the metro and one for pedestrians), both created by box jacking.
All 5 monolithic sections were created with the Drytech White Tank System, totalling 2,470 m² of impermeable concrete bed, wall and floor slab.
The reinforcement in the underpasses is an important part of the White Tank System since it contributes, in a consistent way, to the control of cracking.
In fact, when the tunnels were positioned, no additional cracks were created in addition to those which had been planned via the insertion of DRYset crack inducers.
