PREFABRICATED RAILWAY UNDERPASS, CREMA / The railway underpass in via Indipendenza, Crema, has been inaugurated.
The construction, which allows the passage of a road and cycle path under the railway, was carried out without needing to interrupt the circulation of trains above.
This was only possible thanks to the Drytech White Tank. The underpass had to be waterproofed against groundwater just below the ground surface.
The Drytech Tank enabled the monolithic block to be prefabricated near the railway line and then it was pushed into place via excavation, gradually replacing the ground supporting the railway line.
Once in place, the critical points of the monolithic block (cracks and joints) were injected with DRYflex expanding resin. Since the waterproofing was done ex-post, there was no risk of damaging it during the installation phase.
The monolithic block was created as a single waterproof concrete structure based on the Drytech mix design. The shrinkage cracks were controlled using DRYset crack inducers. The joints were prepared for subsequent resin injections with special channels. Finally, the expansion joints were prepared with DRYset waterstop injectable tapes.
Designed by the structural engineer Terzini from Crema and built by the company De Fabiani from Cavenago d’Adda, the underpass is 170 metres long, equal to 3,600 m² of Drytech waterproof tank.
