UNDERWATER CHECKS, LUGANO / Being specialised in underground waterproof constructions allows Drytech to offer design engineers and building contractors special assistance even in extreme situations.
This was the case for the Agorà building in Lugano: the foundations were built with underwater casting. The Drytech technicians monitored the progress and quality of the casting using immersed video cameras. In the pictures above you can see the technician inspecting the casting of the concrete bed via a monitor connected to video cameras.
Drytech Engineering formulated the waterproof concrete mix design, suitable for casting underwater, based on the characteristics of the aggregates present in the plant chosen by the building contractor, Edilteam from Gravesano (Ticino). The underground structure was prepared with DRYset elements: channels for cold joints, crack inducers to control shrinkage cracks and sleeves for penetrations. All elements are made of inert material and therefore suitable for use in water.
On completing casting, DRYflex waterproofing resin is injected through these elements which, when expanded, seals joints, cracks and penetrations through pressure.
Building a waterproof structure directly in water is a complex activity but clearly necessary when it is not possible to block off the building site’s perimeter from the water table.
In these situations, the Drytech Tank is an effective solution – if not the only viable one – due to the fact that it does not depend on environmental conditions.
The Agorà complex, with 58 apartments and 5 commercial areas, will be inaugurated in spring 2017.
