RESEGA PARK+RIDE, LUGANO / The Park&Ride in Cornaredo, Lugano, is set to be named as one of the fastest construction sites in Switzerland.
A very fast construction which is the result of meticulous planning.
An investment in time and resources during the preparation stage which, at the start of the work, was translated into effective organization both in terms of the numerous contractors involved and the delivery times of construction materials.
A works calendar which could be defined as intensive and made even more compact by the opportunity of removing the activities related to waterproofing.
The Drytech® White Tank System activities are in fact carried out in parallel to construction activities meaning that they can be removed from the works calendar. The Drytech technicians time their work based on the activities of the metal workers and the progress of casting which carry on without stopping for waterproofing activities.
The White Tank single waterproof concrete structure represents a further saving compared to the stone blocks and internal partition walls of systems with traditional membranes.
But the most important contribution that Drytech gave to the speed of the construction site in Cornaredo was the Controlled Crack Inducer. As well as controlling cracking, so that casting is unaffected by shrinkage, DRYset crack inducers can be used as disposable formwork. This provides an opportunity to cut the time and costs of dismantling conventional formwork.
In one of the pictures above you can see the edge of the crane’s concrete plinth, created with DRYset crack inducers used as disposable formwork.
This system was used where ever possible on the construction site. Construction was started in October 2010 and the new multistorey car park in Lugano was inaugurated in March 2012.
With a waterproof structure comprising 6,470 m² of concrete bed and 2,100 m² of walls, the two underground floors of the Cornaredo Park+Ride provide parking for up to 400 vehicles.
If in the future a building were built above ground level, the change in load would not affect the effectiveness of the waterproofing system. The Drytech system, which works with the unloaded structure, will adapt to the new load stresses.
Any settlement will be compensated by the elastic expanded quality of the DRYflex resin used to seal the joints, cracks and penetrations in the structure.
Furthermore, since the resin is elastic it can be injected again. The possibility of carrying out maintenance is an important factor in choosing a waterproofing system, since it is an operating cost for a building. These costs are much more contained when it possible to perform maintenance with little disruption and results can be verified immediately.
